After a sensational two weeks of school holidays, our Kidzphyz programs were highly successful. Camp participants were able to rub shoulders with some of the AFL’s elite talent, with both our Yarra Valley Grammar clinic and Hailebury camp hosting Nathan Freeman and Jordy De Goey from the Collingwood Football Club. Both these outstanding AFL footballers visited over the three day clinics to share their knowledge, experience and football skills with our young sports camp participants. The Kidzphyz participants were also able to grab an autograph, photo and ask questions of the Collingwood boys whilst on the camp. We must thank both Nathan and Jordy for kindly giving up their time to be with us at Kidzphyz and we look forward to them joining us again at another Sports camp in the near future.

Hi Kidzphyz,

My kids Matilda and Henry attended the Ringwood sports camp last week. I just wanted to say a very big thank you to everyone that ran the camp. The kids had a fabulous time. I hope to enrol them in your camps over the summer school holidays. Thank you for keeping them active and entertained!

Many thanks, Hannah (Parent of 2 children at Sept 15 Camp @ YVG)

Participants within our Hockey camps across Victoria also enjoyed the expert advice of our superstar coaches, including National League player and former Victorian U21’s star Lachlan Steinfort. The outstanding synthetic pitches of both Yarra Valley Grammar and Haileybury were bustling with kids as they continued to run, chase and smash hockey balls all day long.

The soccer clinic was a huge hit out in Ringwood. With the first class grounds and outstanding weather, the kids were treated to outstanding coaching team headed up by Exercise Scientist and Master Coach Andrew Christie. In the gym, our Basketball campers were treated to another three days of great coaching and skill development. Both camps were a blast, with kids from ages 6 – 14 took to the courts over the 2 exciting camps.

Kidzphyz Sports Camps teams up with Lanard Copeland to offer outstanding Basketball Camp

Kidzphyz Sports Camps teams up with Lanard Copeland to present their Spring Basketball Camp

When you think of Lanard Copeland the mind immediately heads to high-flying alley-oops athletic open-court play and the ability to shoot from range in high-pressure situations.  Copeland had a long and distinguished career, most notably as part of an amazing backcourt tandem, Copeland and the legendary Andrew Gaze combined to create the most famous basketball scoring duo of all time in this country.  The Atlanta-born tall guard started his NBL career in 1992 and became a major contributor in the popularity of the sport during the 1990’s

The flashy, athletic and unorthodox scorer set gyms alight throughout the League and helped the Melbourne Tigers become the most well-known basketball brand in the nation.  Playing most of his 530 game career with the Tigers, Copeland also had stints with the Brisbane Bullets and Adelaide 36rs and remained an effective contributor until his recent retirement.  Accolades are impossible to list in their entirety, however, some highlights include:

–          Championships with Melbourne Tigers in 1993 and 1997

–          Grand Final MVP in 1997

–          NBL All-Star in 1992, 1994 and 2004

–          ALL-NBL First team in 1999 and 2002

Did you know?

–          Lanard made the NBA as a free agent in 1998 with the Philadelphia 76rs after a successful college career at Georgia State.  During the NBA stint he played alongside one of the all-time greats of the game, Charles Barkley and with and against such players as current Boston Celtics Coach Doc Rivers.

Lanard Copeland has had a celebrated career, playing both in the NBL (Melbourne Tigers & Adelaide 36ers) and NBA (Philadelphia 76ers & LA Clippers)

The tall guard, born in Atlanta, retired from the NBL after playing 530 games, the majority with the Melbourne Tigers, while he finished his playing career with the Adelaide 36ers.  As a key player in the Tigers lineup, Copeland was an integral part of the championship winning teams during the 1990’s and early 2000’s.  In 2008, Copeland retired from playing and made the move to coaching and developing junior players.  He now works vigorously with the Haileybury College school basketball teams, with particular focus on the Senior Firsts Boys Team.

In 2010, Kidzphyz Australia teamed up with Lanard to provide the ultimate Basketball camp experience.  The Copeland basketball camps add another great element to the already successful sports camps on offer by the Kidzphyz team.   Check out online for more information about when and where our camps are on offer:

Media Release: Kidzphyz Coach Tom Scully Goes #1 in the 2009 AFL Draft

Scully goes to Melbourne FC as number 1 pick in AFL National Draft.

Congratulations to Tom Scully who was selected by the Melbourne Football Club as the number one pick during the 2009 AFL National Draft.

Scully was an integral part of our coaching team at the July Kidzphyz Australia Camp being involved with coaching none other than the Australian Rules Football kids.  His impact on the young boys and girls during the camp was astonishing, while those kids who managed to grab an autograph during the camp will be thrilled.

We look forward to having Tom join us again in future camps and he has indicated a keen desire to be back with Kidzphyz in the coming years.  He is a wonderful coach and is a fantastic role model for all young children; an extremely hard working individual that all aspiring athletes can use as their benchmark.

From the team at Kidzphyz Australia, we wish Tom all the best in the AFL ranks and look forward to watching his progress as the years go by.
